GFRC is a composite material which is made by a pultrusion* process to form (in the case for Rhinotrusion) individual door and window profile component parts. GFRC has many advantages over traditional materials such as; its strength, thermal resistance, corrosion resistance, energy saving properties and the overall environmental footprint to name a few.

GFRC is relatively unknown within the fenestration industry, but with uses within other parts of the construction industry (wind turbines for example), people are slowly realising the benefits of this amazing material.

GFRC is a material that uses far less energy consumption to produce and emits only 17% carbon emission compared with Aluminum, so it’s also a much greener material choice too.

*Pultrusion is a continuous process for manufacture of fibre-reinforced plastics with constant cross-section. The word, combining “pull” and “extrusion”. As opposed to extrusion, which pushes the material, pultrusion pulls the material.


With global focus quite rightly on energy efficient products, energy consumption and net zero, along with stringent building codes the industry is finding traditional materials do not meet these guidelines readily or are not commercially viable.

Aluminum systems are the most common material choice which are having to be regularly re-designed with larger and larger thermal breaks to meet the ever stricter U-Value / U-Factor requirements from each of the particular zones/countries.

All of Rhinotrusion’s aluminum systems (inc.GFRC thermal breaks) have been assessed by an independent simulation specialist in accordance with BS EN ISO 10077-2:2017, using official Door & Window Energy Rating software, and has been proven to be capable of achieving an ‘A+’ rating and surpassing Title 24.

Our full GFRC door and window system go beyond this and smash existing USA & European Building Regulation requirements (even 2025 expected targets) using standard double glazed units. In essence GFRC profiles act as one complete thermal break!
